The Colorado Secretary of State today signed off on recall petitions for two more lawmakers over their gun votes, for Democratic Sens. Angela Giron of Pueblo and Evie Hudak of Westminster.
To force an election, recall organizers have to collect petition signatures based on 25 percent of the total vote in the last election in that district. It’s not an easy task collecting that many signatures, says the state’s best known Second Amendment advocate, Dudley Brown, who believes the time and money is better spent knocking off Democrats in swing districts in 2014.
The secretary of state earlier approved petitions for the recalls of Senate President John Morse of Colorado Springs, and Rep. Mike McLachlan of Durango.
Second Amendment activists are upset that the Democratic-controlled legislature introduced a slate of gun-control bills. Already, three have been signed into law.
Here’s a look at the petition efforts for Hudak and Giron:
SEN. HUDAK
Petition language: Whereas Senator Evie Hudak has sworn to uphold the Constitution of the United States and of the State of Colorado, it is our opinion she has blatantly disregarded her oath. She has infringed upon our constitutional right to keep and bear arms. She has voted to make all citizens less safe and to drive hundreds of jobs from Colorado. She has limited, denied or otherwise refused to hear testimony from citizens holding views incompatible with her own. She has rushed legislation on important issues, including billion-dollar spending and tax bills while ignoring the voice of the people.
So cavalier is Senator Hudak toward the legislative process that she suggested a coin flip to decide major tax legislation. She has offended the sensibilities of men and women by openly insulting
women and rape victims. She has voted for legislation that continues to raise taxes on the hard-working citizens of Colorado. In these instances and more, in word and deed, Senator Hudak has turned her back on we citizens of Colorado and our Constitution. It is clear Senator Hudak has dishonored her sworn oath and commitment. Accordingly, we the citizens of Colorado must exercise our right to recall Senator Hudak from office.

SEN. GIRON:
Petition language: Senator Giron has stated that she does not support reform that would ignore the 2nd amendment rights of citizens. Despite this claim, she has demonstrated hostility and contempt for the fundamental constitutional liberty of her constituents to defend themselves, by arms if necessary.
Senator Giron has failed to acknowledge the right conferred by the 2nd Amendment, namely the fundamental right to the private ownership of firearms. Instead of supporting the constitutional liberties of her constituents, she has supported legislation intended to deprive the citizens of the very rights she is sworn to defend.
Senator Giron has betrayed the trust of her constituents, her oath to uphold the 2nd Amendment and the rights of gun owners by voting YES on multiple gun control measures as Chair of the Senate State Affairs Committee and in the general body of the Senate. She has blatantly refused to carry out the desires of the overwhelming number of the people she was elected to represent. Her failure to represent the values and opinions of the citizens of the 3rd (Senate) District of the State of Colorado necessitates her recall from office as the only reasonable and available means to defend the liberties of the people of her district.
